Bhai wah! Maan gaye...kise? Vinay Pathank ki character sketch aur unki brilliant performance.
Yup. I saw Dasvidaniya. A very delicate movie. The trailers give it such a RUssian feel, that a few of you who have felt alienated by its promotions, it is a humble request by an avid movie-goer and the one who appreciates good cinema, that do visit this movie. Read my attempt at convincing you below.
Dasvidaniya, basically means, 'Goodbye' in Russian. It's more than that. It's actually a goodbye to life, metaphorically of course. Vinay Pathak stars as Amar Kaul, oh hold your horses, i'm not here to reveal the story, I won't tell you anything drastically important. The movie follows on a middle class man's journey of life. He realises that he is suffering from a terminal disease, and the movie kicks off from there. It is reminescent of The Bucket List and a very quaint situation from Love actually. Besides that, it is quite an original story, and a really touching movie. Vinay Pathak in a role that supposedly gives an impression of a lethargic person wallowing in boredom, well it is a character sketch and is a really commendable act. I have been impressed with his confident and idiosyncratic use of adding personality value to his character from Bheja Fry, but this one, is just too elegant. Every nuance will hit you, no dialogue will escape you. Ranvir Shorey and Rajat kapur are there, but it is Vinay Pathak and only him who has carried the movie on his shoulders. A wonderful story, it is this movie that has the quality of an age old Amol Palekar movie, where you feel that a common man's life has been given importance. Sarita Joshi as the mother of Amar, has done a fantastic job, and she has finally shown the world what a great actor she really is. The movie touches a chord with everyone, because we know or have heard a situation from everyday life, run past us. Not for once will you want to leave your seat, not for once will you be spared by the kindness of humilty and the only thing you'll leave in your theatre seat are the tears, but mentally begin the process of a Things to do list for life.
My Rating: 4 stars
